Regarding airport storage, I know this is specific but it doesn't seem Hanoi airport provides one, and Bangkok doesn't accept laptops (or any kind of object of value I'd say): bangkokairportonline.com/node/134

I had no idea some hotels/hostels would agree to keep some luggage for maybe up to a month, that's good news. Is it safe though (for a not so expensive hotel or even a hostel)? Would I be better trying to find a more expensive hotel and try to get them to store it even if I don't stay there (hoping expensive means "safer")?

comment What's the most comfortable way to travel with 2 backpacks or bags and a DSLR camera?
@hippietrail Thank you for the title, it's better indeed. As for my comment, I was talking about the "DSLR camera situation" that I didn't explicitly stated in the question at first. Many answers didn't take that into account but they are still interesting for people without a DSLR camera. I can't edit my comment anymore.

@hippietrail ok let's do that again. In my question I talked about "too hot" and "uncomfortable" (I also said that I travelled with a DSLR so I needed a second lighter bag). I admit these goals were implied (not explicitly stated), but answers are on spot. I accepted the "most confortable" and "not hot" solution for travelling with 2 bags.
