comment How long does it take to cross the border at Iguazu Falls?
@RoflcoptrException : yeah we'll definitely do both. The question really is, whether to stay on Argentinan side and leave a bit earlier to get to the brazilian airport, or stay on the brazilian side and spend a bit more time commuting to the argentian side

@PeterHahndorf : ah ok cool - yeah it sounds like it's not much of a problem. The plane leaves at 12, so if we took off after breakfast it should be fine

comment Travel Doctor vs GP for vaccinations
thanks for the quick response. Yeah, it costs $100 just to get an appointment with the travel doc - where as it's bulk billed for the GP. Having a look at CDC, it looks like I'm up for the works anyway cause I'm going into Peru and Bolivia. There's no way a doctor would recommend anything LESS than the CDC recommendations so it might be best just to go the GP route.

comment Accommodation in South America - book here or just rock up and find there?
@hippietrail : true, but some places are more accessible than others to not have accom. Eg. SE Asia - getting hassled all the time is kind of annoying but it also means that anytime u want anything - room, food, massages, alcohol, drugs you've never heard of etc. someone will be willing to provide it to you. You rock up in Sydney without accom and u risk spending half a day trying to find somewhere.

thanks, yeah my spanish is fairly basic, but it's two months till I go, so I'll try to get a little bit better at it. Maybe we'll book for the first place and then keep a list of places we COULD stay at for the other ones, and book a couple of days before we get there. Good point about the world cup - definitely will book Rio.

comment What are some safe places to travel in South America?
@hippietrail : I understand that different parts of the same country may be different so yeah, I'd be interested in places. You can include Central America as well. I don't need a ranking, I just want to know some places that are generally considered "safer" to travel in South America. For example, if this question was on South East Asia, I would probably answer that "Singapore" is a relatively safe place relative to other countries in the region.
