But... renting from Dubai does require you to purchase an Omani insurance, which costs 60 euros for 7 days for a small car. That's more than 50% of the rental price. :(

Thanks for that. It's indeed an alternative I'm considering. Rent is cheap, less than 20 euros per day.

:) Well. I really didn't expect them to respond, let alone so quickly. But it might also not be the only connection between UAE en Oman.

comment Volunteer travel in South East Asia / Africa
@dagalti: You'll still need to provide a bit more info. Are you saying you are willing to pay to be a volunteer? Or do you want to get paid (however little). And how long would you expect to be in any one place? Are you thinking of moving abroad permanently? Are you looking for incidental volunteer work, or do you want to do something more structural? Is your objective to volunteer in a specific place, or do you want to travel around, occasionally putting your skills to use?

comment Concentrated area of sight seeing opportunities in Bangkok, Thailand?
Well, I suppose that depends on what you're next destination will be. I'm not sure if the skytrain will still run at that time, but taxis are affordable enough and, at that time of the day, fast. If you reach your next destination by bus or train, I would most certainly stay in town, not at the airport.

comment Transit visa in India?
Cool. I don't think (but am not sure) that the French have it easier getting a visa for India than others. Hence I suppose why you got a visa before going in the first place :) But, I suppose, you should still check with a consulate.
