comment Can I enter and exit a country immediately?
I beg to differ. Europeans, and some others, will not be let in several South American countries if they stayed in the country they are trying to return to, for 90 days or more in the previous six months. I also seem to remember that, at some point at least, Thailand had a restriction on the number of consecutive tourist visas that could be issued to individuals from some western countries.

Keleti, Nyugati and Deli also all used to have a left luggage offices. No idea if they're still there, though.

comment In Indonesia, is import duty levied on items intended as gifts?
They won't notice unless your bringing the computer into the country is somehow recorded at entry. I'm not familiar with Indonesian customs, but some countries do ask visitors whether they have any valuables that are not for personal use. But, visitors that bring in a computer for personal use, which for all intents and purposes looks to be for personal use, don't get their possessions recorded on an entry form. So, in short, as long as you don't say a thing, you should be fine.

How about if you make it appear as if it is your own computer? Ditch the packaging and take it in your carry-on.

comment Missing bag report swindle
Sorry-o. I went through a period where every second or third flight saw my bags get lost. In the process, I've had my fair share of very shitty airline customer service. I found that a rule of thumb is that airlines will go out of their way to make it very difficult for you to get some kind of financial compensation from them, while mostly being generally unhelpful. Considering this happened in litigation-happy America, you might have a legal case against them, but, IANAL. Even then, the money you lost will likely pale in comparison to the time and effort it will cost you to pursue this issue.

comment How to get the most out of a layover in Sao Paulo
Beware that English will probably not be spoken much. But, as the night progresses, you will probably find both yourself and your counterparts to be more and more talkative anyway. :)
