comment Traveling to Colombia - cash or card?
I don't have specific information for Colombia on this, but banks (and exchange booths) tend to mess you over by charging a fee for the transaction, less so with the exchange rate. So, yeah, ATMs are generally a better bet.

Are you sure about no ATMs in Colombia charging convenience fees? Elsewhere in South America (as well as some other countries) this most certainly is the case for some ATMs. In Brazil, for example, these are typically the ATMs called 'Banco 24 horas', which offer banking services for some 40 banks.

comment Why do ferry checkins close so early?
I speculate, but I think this is a leftover from a long bygone era. And, because the number of foot passengers is so small, there's no real pressure to change this much. That said, I seem to recall that the ferries between the UK and Ireland are much more lenient with their checkin/boarding times.

comment Low cost airlines search engine?
Interesting. But, I tried a few searches and the returned prices were quite inaccurate.

I did the trip by bus. It was more than fine. No hassles, if long.

comment Second most photographed building in the southern hemisphere - why?
As I mentioned, it depends on your definition of 'building'. Cristo Redentor in Rio, for one, is also a chapel. Machu Picchu is a village, sure, but pretty much each individual house in this village is in every photo.

Considering that the first few hundred that I see for 'dunedin' all lack the train station, probably not that many.

comment Second most photographed building in the southern hemisphere - why?
Of course. But I don't think there's a strong reason to assume that Flickr's numbers are incorrect in relative terms. Additionally, no one is able to count photos that are not, in some way, online, meaning these cannot be used for any claim, either way.

Cartagena in Spain or Cartagena in Colombia?

comment Where exactly does the Carnaval de Barranquilla take place?
Barranquilla is not that big. If you make sure you're there the right days, asking pretty much anyone will do the trick. If you don't speak Spanish, ask at the few big hotels. Or the Museum of the Caribbean.

True. And that is an example of the point I was making.
