comment Is there any accurate map for the Silk Route and is it still practicable?
:) There was no direct trade between these opposites ends of this maritime route, but there was at least some trade on at least most of the sections of the route, at least some of the time.

Further, part of the raison d'etre for the silk route's existence was the inability to trade by sea, due to all sorts of maritime conflicts.

The maritime 'silk' route mentioned on the Wikipedia page is highly contentious. There were some (read: a handful, at most, and not first hand) contacts between Rome and China, during Roman times, but there was certainly no established trade going on between the two.

comment Is there a cheapest city / airline / season to fly one-way from anywhere in Europe to Australia?
I tried to use FlightFox a few weeks ago but was not impressed. Using airninja and hipmunk myself resulted in the same kind of deal as offered through FlightFox.

comment Where to stay in Rome?
Heheheh. 100 - 200 per night :) I'd book through airbnb and take the 18 euro per night option (private room, for two). That would save you almost 180 euros per DAY to do AWESOME things!

comment Is it ok to bring a mirror onto an international airplane (US - POL)
@hippietrail: True. It's the same as the question on bringing a pen, which was asked earlier. And it's the same with any glass objects. Like, perhaps, computer screens. Or framed photos (which do get accepted as hand luggage).

comment Do I really have to register with the police when staying with a friend in Croatia?
Well, what the UK FCO office says is, in the end, not relevant for what requirements Croatia might have. What matters is what the Croatian consular service says. I doubt there will be any issues, but to make sure, you'll likely have to call the Croatian embassy.

Why would bringing a mirror be an issue in the first place?
