comment Is 2h 45m enough for a layover in EWR transferring from an int'l to a domestic flight (Terminal B → Terminal C)?
Last year I arrived at EWR and immigration took over 2 hours. 3 or 4 planes had arrived, so the waiting area for non-US citizens was stuffed.

comment Student dorms in Stuttgart (Germany)
OP has stated he wants only a short-term rental, so chances may not be such as bad as for a regular rental

comment What should I do if I feel the pilot is guiding the flight in the wrong direction?
I think the question is too broad to answer, it totally depends on the situation and your capabilities.

comment I've got five hours in NY, what places can I visit in that time?
Be aware, immigration can easily take 2 hours.

comment Apartment in Munich
Why does the Airbnb statement translate "Abgeordneter" (which means "member of parliament") with "government official"? This is misleading. And the other linked Airbnb statement cites only spokespersons of parliamentary groups of the local parliament of Berlin and their opinions, which has no immediate legal impact. So I agree with @MichaelBorgwardt

comment What should I do to protect data when going across the US border with a computer?
Considering the recent events regarding operations of NSA and other US agencies the statement "U.S. law permits interception of e-mail and remote server connections" is at least debatable.

comment How to travel (relatively) cheaply by ICE trains in Germany?
@Vince But be aware, if you book a reduced "Sparpreis" ticket, it's only valid for the specific train and time you booked.

comment Open Banking account in the US for a foreign traveler
My credit card charges 1.5% abroad and I withdraw cash with my card from my home account, which is still cheaper than withdraw from my credit card or changing cash. I don't know about US accounts, but here (Germany) checking accounts are usually only free of charge, if there's an certain income every month. YMMV, but I would evaluate carefully, if the hassle of opening an US account is really worth it for a vacation.

What's the advantage of a checkings account a credit card of your home bank cannot provide? For your use cases purchasing tickets and booking hotels a credit card is sufficient.

comment Can you register for a “packstation” in Germany if you are traveling through Germany?
@Vince That's a different use case. Main use case is that you let deliver your parcel directly to a packstation and your account. Picking up parcels at a packstation with a bar code, when you weren't at home when the parcel came (your case) is just a variation of picking the missed parcel at the post office.

comment Alaska, from Anchorage to Fairbank, car/hotel vs MotorHome
Can confirm that. We travelled to BC and considered renting a RV. Cheapest RV would have cost 2500 EUR for 2 weeks + fees for mileage + gas + camping site fees. Rental car cost us 700 EURs, ho(s)tels cost us ~1500 EUR for 2 weeks. But was high season (August).

Are you sure WiFi is free in first class? I can't find any references at bahn.de

comment Re-enter USA from Canada with Visa Waiver Program
So we did the trip and travelled from vancouver to Seattle via I-5 border crossing. There was no need to fill another form as we already entered the US via air in NYC, the officer just asked, if we had a valid ESTA.

comment Are there any guarded parking lots anywhere in or near Berlin, Germany?
I guess owners of the car garages made some cost-benefit analysis and obviously human guards except the ones monitoring the video system don't bring a benefit regarding to car theft.

comment Paranoid about missing my return flight home from Rome. What to do?
International flights (especially to the U.S.) usually require 1.5h, because of the extensive security procedures.
