Travelling within the US as a British citizen without a passport +1 on the bars. I was always able to talk my way in using just the pink EU licence, but a lot of places seemed unhappy and would ask for passport instead. |

Can I go from Paris to London by train on a one-day trip? It's possible, I have done it (in reverse) to go to job interviews. Check @MarkMayo's comment though - I wouldn't recommend it. |

Am I expected to tip wait staff in Europe? "the kind of places that accept credit cards" - to be honest, it would need to be a REALLY small place to not accept credit cards. Just about any business with it's own address is likely to accept cards, if we're only thinking of western Europe. |

Accidentally travelling with a large amount of cash - epic fail! While it doesn't apply to this case (I don't think opening a new bank account is a good idea just for this), I've actually found the banks to be one of the simplest things about France! The week I arrived I went into LCL and made an appointment, spoke to an adviser within a week, and opened an account there and then. Card sent by mail. <2 weeks to open a new account is not bad. |

Is there a cheapest city / airline / season to fly one-way from anywhere in Europe to Australia? +1 just for mentioning Flightfox - this is new to me too. :) |

Travelling with beach sand in carry-on Nor does he mention bringing 999,999 friends. While @MarkMayo makes an interesting point, I really doubt taking a pinch of sand is going to have a measurable environmental impact. |

What truly cross-continental train trips still exist? Sounds great @rlesko. I've never been to India, but lately I've been reading a lot, and am still inspired by the sheer size. I guess these railways really epitomise that idea for me. :) |
