comment How to convince airport security that I am not dangerous when having metallic parts in my body?
I agree with @ratchetfreak. Someone I know with a titanium rod in his femur does not set off most airport or building metal detectors, but does set off some.

comment Why fly along a rhumb line?
@BenCrowell, I didn't say it was a rhumb line. How do I know it was almost a rhumb line, do you mean? A map of the flight's progress was available to me throughout the flight.

@rlesko, would you be okay with "A Reader's Digest article on New York City mentioned a statue of Gustav Mahler. Does anyone know where it is?"? If so, can you articulate the difference between that and this?

+1: eminently plausible. Thanks!

Curious, then, that the planned path was already modified significantly from the great-circle path, and that the actual path was modified still further. Seems almost like they were trying to avoid most of western Europe (first planning to fly north of it, then flying south of it).

+1 and thanks. But the path on that map doesn't match the map shown to passengers in-flight, which shows we flew over Portugal and Spain, south of France. (See also comments on the question, above.)

@littleadv, not even! It flew over Portugal and Spain, never flying over France at all.

comment What are the rules/regulations for public transit passengers in St. Louis, Missouri?
I'll accept (checkmark) this answer as the most complete I'm going to get, since an employee has stated the rules aren't online. I do hope they get there at some point. Thanks for your information, @CourtneyS.

Thanks. All the rules would be nice, but the one I had in mind was.... I'm currently in StL and used MetroLink. When I got onto the platform, a guard asked to see my ticket. I questioned whether I really need to show it to her there, or if I need it only when on the train. She told me the former, so I showed her mine. Afterward I went online to see whether she was right, but couldn't find the rules anywhere.

You get +1 and my thanks, but no checkmark. Those links are to nice displays of the rules, but I'm sure the rules themselves (assuming they exist, which I do) must be much drier and in legalese.
