comment How should I wash clothes in Iceland?
When backpacking, I do my best to bring clothes which can be washed in a bathtub or sink, which are odor-resistant, and which can drip dry or air dry quickly. While synthetic materials factor heavily into the travel wardrobe, I also carry linen and wool— it's really cotton that is the biggest problem, as it may take more than a night to dry indoors.

comment Why is flying to England so expensive this June/July?
As Independence Day falls on a Friday this year, larger than normal numbers of people will be traveling in and from the U.S. in the week before and after. There has been considerable capacity reduction, with airlines preferring to fly fuller flights of higher paying customers, and now able to after a series of megamergers. But flying to Europe during the summer has never been cheap. Even in 2003, when I scored a $336 round trip IAD-LHR in January, an equivalent summer flight was over $1000, and fuel was far cheaper then.

comment Is “Flying Return” the only available loyalty program for Air India?
If you have a Miles and More account, then yes, I would ask Air India to add your M&M number to your flight. Check that the number appears on your boarding pass, and be sure to save your boarding pass in case the flight does not automatically credit. Note, however, the accrual chart at miles-and-more.com/online/portal/mam/hr/earn/flight/… ; no miles are earned on E, I, L, N, O, P, R, S, T, U or X fares and G, H, K, M, Q, and W fares earn only 25% or 50% base miles.
