comment What immunisations, if any, are required / recommended for Thailand?
The aftermath of floods with pockets of stagnant water make malaria meds more useful than usual (though I'm still not convinced they're worthwhile).

comment Is it possible to travel through Burma (Myanmar), entering at one border crossing and exiting at another?
I would not trust Wikitravel as a reliable source on immigration matters.

comment Long term travel without being wealthy - how is it possible?
@Ginamin That's a valid perspective, but I was talking about minimum feasible spending, not taking the work or socializing expenses into account. Those are highly variable and depend on the type of work you do, circles you socialize with, and the image you wish/need to project (e.g. a teacher must have presentable shirt & tie every day, while someone working over the internet does not).

comment Tactics to avoid getting harassed by corrupt police
In some countries, business cards of senior cops or embassy officials can act as a get-out-of-trouble pass.

comment Long term travel without being wealthy - how is it possible?
@Ginamin, when traveling costs are always higher than when staying put. Accommodation is always cheaper with long-term rentals, and local knowledge can save money as well.

This sounds far more dangerous than a water bottle...

comment What is a safe overland route from Europe to India using public transport?
Google indicates there is a bus from Lhasa to Kathmandu -- that seems like the critical section. There is rail all the way from Europe to Lhasa, roundabout as that may be.

comment Are there any standard clothing restrictions when visiting mosques?
It might depend on the country, e.g. Turkey is more liberal than Iran (even in mosques)...

comment Is Jat Airways reliable?
Note that both fatal accidents were before 1974, and one of them was a bomb (so only one was the airline's fault). JAT flew a lot in the 1980s.

comment How can I determine which airlines are relatively safe?
There are plenty of sites with crash statistics by airline, but generally almost all airlines are safer than alternative transport. Even if you look at remarkably crash-prone airlines in areas like Indonesia, you'll find that they're probably safer than driving or taking a ferry on the same route.

comment Trick to breaking down air routes
Specifically for the BKK flight, it may be good to look up AirAsia fares to some of the cities which are somewhat closer to Vancouver (e.g. HKG, CAN, ICN, KIX), and then find a fare to there (on Kayak, ITA Matrix).

comment Trick to breaking down air routes
You need some local knowledge to get the best deal. Websites are a good starting point, but it's almost impossible for them to gather and search all possible combinations (bus/train/unpublished-fares included).

comment Can I use B1/B2 visa to travel to the US without a business purpose?
You may be correct in general. However, logic and U.S. immigration policy do not mix well. Getting a business or student visa for the U.S. is usually easier than getting the tourist visa.
