comment What are some ways to minimize the time spent in customs?
Declaring everything is guaranteed to slow you down, especially in busy airports where most people are not checked. In some places, it may also mark you as an easy extortion/bribe target, whether what you're carrying is legal or not.

comment Best world destinations for dating - a website?
The term dating is a vague euphemism and difficult to work with. If you're looking for sex (of paid or unpaid variety), that makes the question much more tractable. If you're looking for marriage, that's quite a minefield.

comment Legalities and safety concerns of visiting prostitutes in Amsterdam
Misleading. On page 33 of RVIM 2005, HIV prevalence among female CSW in Amsterdam is 3.1%. On page 32, the paper states "none of the clients were HIV infected" in a 2004 study sample. Regarding other STDs, for comparison, Chlamydia prevalence is ~3.3% among 20-24 y.o. US females (for general population, so 7% for sex workers is not terrible). Using condoms is always a good idea, but no need to panic.

comment What immunisations, if any, are required / recommended for Thailand?
The aftermath of floods with pockets of stagnant water make malaria meds more useful than usual (though I'm still not convinced they're worthwhile).

I would not trust Wikitravel as a reliable source on immigration matters.

comment Long term travel without being wealthy - how is it possible?
@Ginamin That's a valid perspective, but I was talking about minimum feasible spending, not taking the work or socializing expenses into account. Those are highly variable and depend on the type of work you do, circles you socialize with, and the image you wish/need to project (e.g. a teacher must have presentable shirt & tie every day, while someone working over the internet does not).

comment Tactics to avoid getting harassed by corrupt police?
In some countries, business cards of senior cops or embassy officials can act as a get-out-of-trouble pass.

comment Long term travel without being wealthy - how is it possible?
@Ginamin, when traveling costs are always higher than when staying put. Accommodation is always cheaper with long-term rentals, and local knowledge can save money as well.

This sounds far more dangerous than a water bottle...

comment What is a safe overland route from Europe to India using public transport?
Google indicates there is a bus from Lhasa to Kathmandu -- that seems like the critical section. There is rail all the way from Europe to Lhasa, roundabout as that may be.
