Are there any inhabited condominiums (joint sovereignties) apart from Brčko District? Is Brčko truly a condominium? Federation of BH and Republika Srpska are not sovereign nations, but federal units of Bosnia. In theory, Brčko is part of both, but in practice it has it's own assembly and local government, so it's more akin to Washington DC or Ciudad Mexico: an independent city exempt from jurisdiction of federal units. |

How to tip in the United States? @littleadv They prefer cash. It is not your job to make sure they file their taxes correctly. |

Using U.S. ATM cards in Malaysia The rumor I heard is that Malaysian banks were blocking U.S. ATM withdrawals (U.S. banks were not the ones doing the blocking). |

Is it normal to have something added to the bill in a restaurant in Italy? @vartec Listing pre-tax prices is inconvenient and annoying, but not a ripoff. It's a prevalent practice, and in a competitive market, one business cannot afford to list prices 5-15% higher than competitors. If you care, you can ask the staff for tax rates that apply. |

Laptop Searches by Customs - UK and US Correct. My laptop has been checked on return from Thailand, and they patiently went through most of my boring travel snaps. |

Laptop Searches by Customs - UK and US @Andrey It's better not to have files identifiable as encrypted archives. TrueCrypt files cannot be identified by contents, so change the extension to someting else (e.g. .dat or .tmp). |

What's the difference between embassies and consulates? A honorary consul could be the citizen of the country it represents, but he's not the professional member of the foreign service or government employee (often doing the consular work part-time). Often, honorary consuls have limited authority (e.g. they can't issue certain types of visas). |

Name change while in a different country Perhaps it's possible to do it at an embassy or consulate of your country of citizenship. I guess you'd want a new passport issued as well. If you're a permanent resident or stateless, then perhaps different rules apply. |

Is there any interesting place to stop between Siem Reap and Bangkok? This is the shortest route to the border and roughly the one vans from central BKK (Victory Monument) take. If he goes to Ayutthaya, most likely he'd need to get back to BKK for the trip to Aranyaprathet (although maybe there's a direct van/bus), so it's an independent side trip (well worth it on its own merit of course). |
