comment Is there a Waze-like app to keep track of each other among travel companions?
I tested it today extensively. Was a bit disappointed that the app uses driving a car as the main mode of transportation. Actually, then waze is doing a far better job. However, the people behind Glympse are quite responsive on feature requests. I asked for the feature to use Glympse outside the car, ie. walking, public transport etc. So the app remains on my phone

seems to be in the right direction, but you can't selectively share your location with messaging, like you do with waze.

comment Why do trucks pass each other on the highway?
@The111 please don't be so pedantic. No where in the question missing the exit was an issue. I simply took my loss and took the next exit. I am just trying to understand a behaviour of what I considered annoying behaviour by truck drivers. Thanks to Spacedog (below) I have quite some more understanding of why this might be necessary. Your "It's x's fault", kind of comments on the contrary are kind of noise in this thread and is not helping.

comment Why do trucks pass each other on the highway?
@The111 I invite you to come and drive in the Benelux, where it is not uncommon for trucks to account for majority of traffic. So if a truck is passing a chain of trucks it is not always possible to exit, simply due to the long chain of trucks on the right. Even with no passing truck it can happen that it is not possible to exit a highway because trucks don't leave room between them. When you have a line of 20 or more trucks slowing down doesn't help. When driving in the benelux it isbest to just try to get in this line up to 5 km before the exit. But then you need to know your exits up front.

I guess all those commenters who say that braking is a valid option, have never driven in the Benelux where it is not uncommon for trucks to be the majority of traffic. Chain collisions between trucks, due to short follow distance are not uncommon. Some time you just don't want get out of the highway between trucks

That answers the question, thanks for trying to explain. I guess I will never be annoyed again by a slow passing truck
