comment How should I express the end of a period of time I'm allowed to stay in a country so as not to confuse it with visa expiration?
@pnuts: So we shouldn't help travellers facing this problem? And in fact the more I think about it, it's not a problem with the site. It would be if we were discussing the wording of a tag or something ...

comment Overland route from the Caucasus to Mongolia without entering Russia?
They've decided to extend it up to I think 30 days but they expect the actual implementation of that to take some time. If my memory of what I read on Wikipedia and Caravanistan is correct.

@pnuts: We can't change the world but we can teach befuddled travellers to be aware of the subtleties of the wording and let them know what's what. We'll also have a canonical answer to point to when people use the terms wrongly.

@pnuts: All travellers will benefit from this. That the site will also benefit is just a positive side effect. We shouldn't hide this topic in meta where it won't be seen by travellers facing this problem.

But a visa has a duration and each stay has a duration. I think your first suggestion is still unclear. Your second is clear. But they're both about length of time, not about the end of the time. I'm not sure but maybe sometimes we also need a term to express the end of each duration.

There is lack of clear understanding and clear terminology to differentiate between a visa itself expiring and the expiration of the period of time you've been granted entry for a particular stay using a visa. People often mistakenly say "visa expiring" mistakenly for the latter situation. I might ask a new terminology question on this topic.

Looks suitable for here to me. It's about visas and entering the country with paperwork in an uncertain state. Could probably happen with any kind of visa. That doesn't mean the experts on the expats won't have more specific experience and knowledge though so it wouldn't hurt to also ask there.

comment Where to stop on the trans-siberian railway?
On my previous trip I found the Mongolian visa to be the easiest one to obtain that was not a visa on arrival. I got mine in Hohhot, China while I waited.

comment Returning after being removed from UK
@QuoraFeans: WARNING! I once went to "ask the consulate" of the US in Canada to clarify details after voluntary removal from the US. The consulate personnel took my passport and added black marks to a page at the back and told me I was trying to sneak back in to the US. They did not listen to what my actual question was but worsened my immigration record. Do not just wander into a consulate for a friendly chat about such matters - you risk nasty negative consequences that cannot be foreseen. Get SOLID advice FIRST.
