comment A hotel wants my card details (for payment). Is this safe?
Note that hotels are actually not allowed to charge you anything and also give your room to someone else - if you show up late you can at the very least get your money back.

comment Are medical doctors legally doctors wherever they are?
@Tor-Einar Jarnbjo: perhaps not to the same degree, but in many (if not most) jurisdictions, people are held liable for damages incurred by gross negligence, and the standard for what constitutes gross negligence when providing first aid are different for doctors than for laypersons.

The blog post you cite seems to explain it quite detailed: "Civil Defense Drill. It occurs five times a year nationwide in South Korea." - what more do you want to know?

comment How to drive a car from Australia to Europe?
The previous answer claims that going through China would not be possible since foreign license plates are not allowed there. Is your experience different, or did you get Chinese license plates?

re girlfriend: don't underestimate the "exotic bonus": to many, many girls you will in fact be more interesting than a compatriot of otherwise similar characteristics.

comment Can I use a USD travel card in Europe
@Annoyed: actually, it's not necessarily true that you can use a foreign VISA card at any ATM that accepts VISA cards. For example, in Japan 10 years ago it was common for ATMs to accept only domestic credit cards. This may have changed in the meantime, but it's a valid concern.
