comment What tips or tricks can you use to get an upgraded/better hire car?
@DJClayworth: In this case definitely not, I think the satnav was just 6 EUR/day. But yeah, of course that has to be factored in: some rental companies try to lure you in with cheap basic rates and then gouge you on each and every extra.

comment Japanese 'SU' hotel room classification - enough for two people?
I may be wrong, but I think the SU category is not really for people wishing to have a larger room, but to deal with the case where there are more single travellers than actual single rooms. As a hotel, you don't want to charge them the full price of a double room because that would seem unfair (it's not their fault you don't have enough single rooms). But of course you still want to charge fully when there are two people in the room!

I'm pretty sure the resources are irrelevant, what matters is that SU is specifically intended to give a double room to a single person without making them pay for a double.

comment Change itineraries in Munich do I need a Schengen visa?
@veebee: no, it's not possible for a practical reason: in Munich, Etihad and Lufthansa operate on different terminals, so you 'll have to leave the transit area anyway.

comment How to spot fake reviews on TripAdvisor?
I think many people who write real reviews don't want to spend much time on it either....

comment How to spot fake reviews on TripAdvisor?
Interestingly, "mini stories" are actually a strong indication of a fake review, according to a study (see my answer). People who write them also try to fake authenticity...

comment Why are postcards of Cologne in ruins following WW2 bombing sold in the city?
@Nobilis: as for how they are perceived by Germans: while it's true that for NPD types it's often "look what they did to us" and all the implications you can draw from that (often along the lines of "so what we did wasn't all that bad either"), for mainstream society it's more "look what happens in a war; let's avoid those at all costs". For example, one reason why the not-too-popular Schröder government won the 2002 elections was that they clearly refused to join Bush's "coalition of the willing" for the Iraq war.
