comment I saw a lakeside castle or hotel from the air, north of Newark. What is it?
Sounds like a good match. I hope the OP can confirm this is what he saw!

comment If I've visited Crimea, what country do I list on my customs declaration form?
@PeterOlson: As Tor says, there are lots of reasons why you might not have a stamp, so I don't think they'd automatically reject you for not having a stamp; at most they might ask you to explain why you don't have one. And then you would tell them: you were in Crimea, and Ukranian border control is not present there.

comment Transfer time San Francisco coming from Canada onward to Maui
If "United" includes the United Express-branded regional carriers, then this is not true: the UA Destinations list (selecting UA/UAX destinations only) shows them serving a number of Canadian airports without preclearance: Kelowna, London, Quebec City, Regina, Saskatoon, St. John's, Victoria. They even seem to say that St. John's has mainline UA service though I wasn't able to find specific flights.

comment Is an Oyster card worth it for 3 days?
@HenningMakholm: Perhaps the benefit is that you can have it mailed to you before your journey, rather than having to find a place to buy one as soon as you arrive?

comment How can you take advantage of an airline needing to bump people?
Once, after I boarded a flight, the agent announced that they needed to bump someone because the plane was overweight, and asked for volunteers to accept a voucher and take a later flight. I immediately raised my hand, as did another passenger. I suggested we play rock-paper-scissors to decide who could be bumped. He won and took the voucher :-)

Just a linguistic note: in English one speaks of riding a bicycle, not driving it.
