comment How to prepare for very long train journeys?
I did it in 9 months, as I said I did a lot of stops and side trips. An rough estimate for the actual time on trains would be 16 days.

London-Brussels-Berlin-Warsaw-St.Petersburg-Moscow-Irkutsk-Ulaanbaatar-Beijing-S‌hanghai-Hanoi-Saigon (bus to the Cambodian Thai border) Bangkok-Kuala Lumpur-Singapore. In reality I took a lot of side trips and several buses too, but that was the general route.

comment Travelling to Peru, Ecuador, Galapagos with kids
The high season is in between June and August because it is cooler and dryer in the Andes and North American and Europeans have their summer vacation. So the rest of the year should be low season. Places will be less crowded.

Do you plan to fly between places? Some of the required bus or car journeys are very long, maybe too long for a six year old.

comment Vomitorium: Only common in the German-speaking world?
Doesn't look like a vomitorium, more like a sink to wash your clothes in.
