I would like to ask you which books would you recommend to an EU citizen before visiting the US? I prefer big publication with complete history, geography, traditions, cities, nature politics, culture etc.

EDIT: I am going to North Dakota.

There are literally thousands of books have been written on these topics? Could you narrow it down at all? At present this is too broad a question for a Q/A site where we try to provide objective answers. If we're just offering any we like, it becomes subjective and could go on for years! Any further detail you can include like where you're going, what type of stuff you're looking to do etc would be really useful. At that point, you can flag the question for reopening, and please do - we'd love to help. At present, I'm closing it as too broad, sorry :/ – Mark Mayo Oct 1 '12 at 17:52
Welcome, by the way, I just noticed you're a new user. The question is essentially polling us, which is against SE guidelines for a question. I'd suggest having a look at our faq - it may give you an idea of what questions are suitable on here. – Mark Mayo Oct 1 '12 at 17:53

'The Lost Continent' by Bill Bryson. Although the reader would have to be fairly good at English to get the jokes. (I mention merely because you say 'EU citizen'). – Ankur Banerjee Oct 1 '12 at 20:56
Thanks, ankur, I will try to check this book. – Derfder Oct 2 '12 at 5:47

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. For help clarifying this question so that it can be reopened, see the FAQ.
