What kind of headscarf is this? I should have asked our guide in Wadi Rum, Jordan. I think it's different to the keffiyeh popular in Amman.

Ghutrah maybe? I think that white means that the person has been to the holy site in Mecca. It is a kind of keffiyeh. – littleadv Aug 8 '12 at 0:42

This is called Immah (عمة) it is also called Imamah (عمامة). The first letter of the two words are the letter (Ain) which has to equivalent in English so when pronounced as i wrote it in English it will not be understood for arabs. so you better copy and paste the arabic word in google translate and then click the voice button to hear the correct pronunciation. – HaLaBi Aug 10 '12 at 5:59
More info, This style of Imamah is called Osbah (العصبه) in United Arab Emirates. Also called Esamah (عصامة) in Yemen and southern Saudi. – HaLaBi Aug 10 '12 at 6:09
