I am seriously considering moving to Costa Rica for a long duration (years). But it seems moving there from the US can be pretty tricky. I cannot seem to find any definitive information online.

The best outcome would be I just pack up, fly down there, and start my new life. That, as it turns out, is impossible.

So I am wondering how to go about moving there and getting a job. It seems there are various options for retired/pensioned people, but for someone who still needs to work for a living, I don't understand how I can go to Costa Rica and get a job!

Is it possible to go there on a 90-day tourist Visa, and find a job during that time (then apply for a work visa, etc.)? Or is there some other way to go about it? The crux here is that I won't have a job until I go there and find one (hopefully)!

If it's possible, will there be time limits? My ultimate goal is to become a resident. Could I find a job and live happily ever after? If it's not possible in Costa Rica, is it in any other Central American countries?

Hey Steve - it was decided a while back that this type of question is really immigration, not travel, and as such is considered off topic for this site. There is however, an immigration proposal if you wish to support it - area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/10331/immigration. You can also try reddit.com/r/iwantout for some advice on moving to other countries. – Mark Mayo Jul 18 '12 at 16:46

That's up to you, but I've closed it, which is all that is necessary from our point of view. – Mark Mayo Jul 18 '12 at 16:47
