Is there any cheap way to travel from NYC to Detroit ? Bus, airplanes, train?

Hitchhiking is probably the cheapest! And if you already have a car, then driving might be the next cheapest... Do you want to qualify your requirements a bit more? How fast/slow will you accept? What time of day / what time of year / what day of week? Is hitchiking / driving / etc an option? – Gagravarr Jul 1 '12 at 15:05

This varies wildly depending on how far in advance you can plan, your criteria for cheap, whether you need to include the cost of a return trip, and your access to resources. For example, a cursory glance at a few airline comparison sites says that you can get a round trip ticket, for as low as 130 dollars, or 65 bucks each way. Which, incidentally, is the same price as a greyhound bus. Driving depends entirely on your car. If you're solo, it probably doesn't make financial sense. Napkin math for typical fuel economy puts it at $150 one way. You need to be more specific to get a real answer. – LessPop_MoreFizz Jul 1 '12 at 23:06
