I'm new to all of this...

If I'm traveling in Country X and I decide on the spur of the moment to take a taxi to Country Y, what obstacles would I typically run into?

What paperwork, background checks, and delays are typical?

And is there any "typical" situation in regards to this or does it vary widely?

I think that depends largely on the country you're going through. From Canada to the US it's a breeze, and inter-Europe it's pretty fast too. However I imagine from Pakistan to India, or North Korea to South Korea it might be difficult. ;-) Might want to refine the question a little. – Stephen P. Feb 21 at 0:20
You seem to be asking a lot of very general, very broad questions. I suggest you have a read of the faq to make sure your questions don't get too broad and are problems that you face, so as to avoid risk of close or downvotes against you. – Mark Mayo Feb 21 at 0:23

I'm actually going to close this one as there are far too many combinations, visas, rules, citizenships and countries for it to be logically answered and have an answer accepted. I invite you to ask the question for a specific country or region you are intending to travel to, however! – Mark Mayo Feb 21 at 0:25
