Travel Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for road warriors and seasoned travelers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm a 25 year old Canadian who works in web/mobile app development. I really want to take a working holiday in Australia but continue working at a similar job, with decent pay.

What can I do to maximize my chances of getting a decent job. For example best cities for this kind of job, should I send out resumes before I leave, ect.

Welcome to the site. Please review the FAQ as the question stands it is more likely to be a business or startup question then a travel one. – Karlson Feb 16 at 22:24
Most companies who hire developers want long-term commitment, not someone who is likely to work irregular hours (assuming you want some vacation during your working vacation) and then leave after a few months. However development is easy to do remotely. Have you considered continuing to work for a Canadian company while you are in Australia? – DJClayworth Feb 17 at 2:11

If I'm not mistaken working holidays for Canadians in Australia are extremely limited in scope, and may exclude your professional actives. Double check.

I would try networking and getting freelance work/overflow from an agency that's local if possible. Might work out into a lucrative career on it's own :-)

I've done freelance work here in Canada but from what I understand you're not aloud to do freelance work with a Working Holiday Visa? Which of sucks, when you say extremely limited are you referring to the industries one can work in? – PhilipK Feb 17 at 5:43
There's nothing that would prohibit you doing freelance work for Canadian companies though, is there? I meant get a deal with a Canadian company before going abroad. I thought last time I looked into it (same visa program, different country) you weren't allowed to work in "careers that would advance your field." Which basically means you can work in hospitality. I would probably just take whatever I can get though, consider it a gap year and have fun. You only live once. – Stephen P. Feb 17 at 12:58
