I have to fly from Zurich or nearby airports to Hamburg on April 1st 2013. Since it is Easter Monday, the flights are really expensive.

So what tactics should I use to find a cheap flight for that? The cheapest I could find is around 235CHF what is a little bit much. Should I wait any longer? Or book as soon as possible?

Same as any other day... – Grzenio Feb 14 at 13:25
Don't forget you can also take the train. I'm sure you're aware, but perhaps readers from countries where intercity train is a niche can easily forget. – gerrit Feb 14 at 14:02
235 CHF for a one-way or a return flght? – Marcel C. Feb 14 at 17:57

Asking questions for specific dates and specific cities is a bit too specific - it's not going to be useful to anyone else in future. In addition, we have several questions that explain how to find discounts or lower prices, and whether or not to book or wait before holidays. Closing for one of those reasons now, sorry. – Mark Mayo Feb 14 at 19:20

That's how it works... last minute or filled up flights are expensive; that's common in the airline industry. Try your chance on websites such as Opodo, which search many airlines at once.

I see the distance is rather long. Have you considered travelling by train anyway? There is a direct ICE service that takes 7 hours, or a sleeper train with connections. Train is often more affordable.

@RoflcoptrException I found a night train, arriving on the 2nd in the morning, for 100 euros including a bed on bahn.de – Vince Feb 14 at 14:12

@RoflcoptrException: Have you actually tried to find anything cheaper? There es even a night train connection for 89€. It didn't take me more than a few clicks to find the flights I mentioned in my response in an arbitrary flight search engine. – Tor-Einar Jarnbjo Feb 14 at 14:42
Not a lot, because as I mentioned in the question, I plan to fly there. Additionally, I used kayak.com, and the matrix search software by google, but they don't seem to cover easyjet. – RoflcoptrException Feb 14 at 14:48

easyJet flies from Basel to Hamburg on April 1st with tickets currently starting at 78CHF. For the cheapest fare, the flight departs 6:30AM and I am not sure if you'll manage to get to Basel in time for such an early flight. There is a second flight on the same day departing 7:10PM with tickets starting at 149CHF.

FYI : there is a train every hour from Zürich to Basel that costs 32CHF and takes 1 hour; but I do not know if it runs 24-hour. From Basel station, the bus takes 15 to 20 minutes to reach the airport. – DavLink Feb 14 at 17:22
