I'm planning a trip to DC (for 2 on August 2013) and, since it's going to be my first time there, I'm looking for a nice hotel room as closer to downtown as possible. I'm a budget minded traveler, and I'm not looking to throw away extra money in a hotel, where I'm not going to expend much time.

Any recommendation?

Welcome to travel.SE. I'm not sure if you've read our faq, but I suggest you do, as we specifically don't generally solicit recommendations in questions on here - it's a Q/A site, rather than a discussion, as we could get dozens of answers for this question. However, if you can narrow down your requirements, the community will usually be more ok with it. Could you update your question with more detail? Would you accept a hostel? Is there a particular area of town you prefer? What is 'nice' for you - 3/4/5 star? And any other information you think would be useful - it's a big city! :) – Mark Mayo Jan 6 at 11:31
