Cape Cod belongs in its own category and it takes more than 1 hour to reach it from Boston, whereas the rest of the Massachusetts shore line is not.

Please recommend good beaches and rank them / comment on what makes them good.

Perhaps if you could edit your question and indicate what you're looking for in a beach - remember, you're trying to get an answer which you can accept. yup, you'd need to have very specific criteria, as there is a wikipedia page listing over a hundred beaches in Massachusetts : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… – Vince Dec 12 '12 at 22:55
